SPEEDRUNNER II: HYDROFOIL FERRY
Here is a link to the Wikitravel site where you will find useful information about Sifnos Island:
http://wikitravel.org/en/Sifnos

Here is a link to the ferry schedule:  http://www.openseas.gr/OPENSEAS/index_en.vm

The ferry stop before Sifnos Island is Serifos Island.  Because the names are so similar (and in Greek), people often make a mistake and get off one stop too early, which means you are stranded on Serifos for a day before you can catch another ferry that's only available the following day!  Please be vigilant of where you are getting off on the ferry.

I highly recommend picking up a copy of McGilchrist's Greek Islands # 19 Western Cyclades.   It's a scholar's guide by an art historian par excellence, which gives intimately observed details of flora and fauna, architecture, art and history, not found anywhere else.  It's on the Economist's list of "Best Books for the Year" 2010.  You can click on the image of the book  on the left and it will take you to the author's website where you can purchase a copy.

Sifnos Island photobook by Kim Moore is a delightful book of well observed details of the island's flora and fauna with Kim's special interest in the island's many cats.  She is a professional photographer of insects, bees, birds, and butterflies.  Her photos also give one an excellent idea of the island's little villages off-season when tourist are gone.  She and her husband Lindsey, who was her editor, were there in October 2010 when they had the island beaches all to themselves.  They lunched at the few seaside tavernas still open.   You can click on the image of the book on the left and it will take you to the website where you can flip through the book online and also to purchase a copy.

Maps
The Google Map shows the exact location of  the cottage.   The second map shows the general area in relation to the other villages and the location of the beaches.
